Ali Larijani, the newly appointed Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), arrived in Iraq on Monday for his first foreign visit in the role, aimed at holding high‑level talks with senior Iraqi officials. Later, he is also scheduled to travel to Lebanon.
Larijani, a veteran politician with three decades of experience in Iran’s political and security arenas, has only recently assumed the position. His appointment has drawn significant attention both inside Iran and across the region’s political circles, largely due to his reputation for rationali and pragmatic stances.
Larijani is expected to meet with Iraq’s highest-ranking officials and figures during his ongoing visit. The talks are expected to focus on regional peace and stability, bilateral ties, and coordination on key and decisive developments in West Asia.
Larijani is well‑versed in high‑level international engagement. Previously, he visited Russia and China as special envoy of Iran’s Leader, delivering important messages during critical phases of diplomatic engagement.
His close working relationship with Iran’s Leader, combined with his reputation for rationality and dialogue, has strengthened the view that Larijani could play a significant and constructive role in advancing Iran’s foreign policy in the period ahead.
