As Iran Nuances reported in its scoop yesterday on Sunday, General Ali-Akbar Ahmadian has been appointed as Iran’s new top security chief.
Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi has officially appointed Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, as new secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
He replaces Ali Shamkhani who held the position for nearly a decade.
Ahmadian, a prominent Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commander, has been a member of the Expediency Discernment Council.
The new SNSC secretary, also a dentist, holds a master’s degree in Defense Studies and a doctorate in Strategic Management from the National Defense University. His military career encompasses a tenure as the commander of the IRGC Navy from 1997 to around 2000, followed by his leadership of the Joint Staff of the IRGC from 2000 to 2007. Subsequently, Ahmadian directed the Strategic Center of the IRGC for several years.
During the Iran-Iraq war, Ahmadian was recognized as one of the senior commanders of the IRGC and held the critical responsibility of overseeing the headquarters of the Noah camp.
