Amidst publicly stated positions and red lines concerning Iran’s enrichment program, Iran and the United States are set to convene for a new round of talks today in Rome. This development occurs against a backdrop of heightened rhetoric between the two sides and a rising suspicion of Iran in the genuine objective of the US.
The US administration is increasingly perceived as submitting to Israel’s whims regarding the Iran nuclear negotiations. At least this is what Israel insists to suggest, evidenced by the dispatch of the Mossad chief to Rome on Friday. This reinforces Iran’s long-held suspicion that Israel seeks to direct American negotiators and sabotage any progress in the diplomatic process.
According to a source familiar with the negotiations, Israel intends to push Donald Trump administration to the extreme in order to guarantee the negotiations’ failure today. “They want to be in Rome to celebrate it”, the source told Iran Nuances.
“That would be the end of Steve Witkoff’s short career in official diplomacy, though, after he failed to make any progress on the other two main Trump’s promises i.e. Ukraine crisis and Gaza genocide”, the source suggested.
